This month, we had the pleasure of speaking with Paul Richards, a dedicated Streets Operative and RCV Driver at NCSL. Paul has been with the company for seven years, bringing a wealth of experience from various industries.
His career journey started in a chip shop after leaving school, where he worked his way up to manager. He then transitioned into steelwork before moving to Norwich 30 years ago, where he became a bus driver. Whilst the role provided stability, Paul was ready for a change, leading him to join Norse as a Streets Operative in 2018.
Paul’s favourite part of his job is the people – both his colleagues and the members of the public he interacts with daily. No two days are the same, and he enjoys the variety that comes with meeting new people, having conversations, and being part of a great team.
He also thrives in hands-on and active roles, constantly learning new things, and embracing the positive changes within the business. Paul is particularly excited about his next step – earning his HGV license through NCSL, further developing his skills and career.
Outside of work, Paul has a range of hobbies, including carp fishing, playing pool and snooker, decorating, gardening and spending time with friends and family. He’s also a keen traveller and frequently visits Scotland.
Looking ahead, Paul hopes that in 10 years he’ll still be enjoying his work but preparing for retirement. When the time comes, he plans to dedicate time to volunteering, as supporting others is something he finds truly rewarding.
And here’s the fun fact you might not know about Paul – he’s been skydiving and loved it so much that he’s planning to do it again!
