This month’s Meet the Team spotlight features our newly promoted Multi-Skilled Operative, Paul McAlpine. Paul has been part of NCSL for over three years, starting as a cleaner/labourer. Through hard work and dedication, he was recently promoted to a multi-skilled operative, a role that allows him to contribute to the business with a broader set of skills.
Paul’s career journey has been diverse. He began working alongside his father as subcontractor, travelling across the UK for asbestos removal jobs. He later took on roles as a warehouse operative and with an electrical wholesale company before becoming a bus driver. Looking for stability after the birth of his daughter, Paul spent an impressive 26 years in the bus industry. During this time, he witnessed many interesting sights, but eventually, he decided it was time for a complete career change. This decision led him to join Norse, and eventually, NCSL.
Paul’s favourite part of his current role is the satisfaction of seeing tasks through from start to finish, something he hadn’t experienced in previous jobs. He also values the sense of camaraderie at NCSL, appreciating the opportunity to work with others and enjoy daily conversations with his colleagues.
Outside of work, Paul has a range of fascinating hobbies. He restores classic cars and currently owns two treasures: a 1955 Plymouth Belvedere and a 1958 Ford Anglia. He’s also the lead singer in a rockabilly band, the V8 Rockets. In his spare time, Paul enjoys gardening, pond fishing, and is a passionate model train enthusiast.
Looking ahead, Paul sees himself still contributing to NCSL in 10 years, whilst starting to plan for retirement, giving him more time to focus on his many hobbies.
Finally, a fun fact you might not know about Paul – he’s also a talented jive dancer!
